What To Expect (click to open)
Our patients fall into two broad categories: those coming for a single visit to solve an immediate problem, and those with a problem that involves longer-term treatments
Single visit patients
Single visit patients have a specific problem and want relief as soon as possible. This often means that Dr. Rick will examine the problem area, make an adjustment, and pain is relieved, often almost immediately. And you’ll be on your way.
Multiple-visit patients
Multi-visit patients may require several visits to relieve a specific problem, and many patients then continue visits, on either a regular schedule or occasionally, with the goal of preventing or reducing the chances of the problems coming back.
What to wear to Dr. Rick’s Clinic
Most chiropractic treatments are performed with the patient dressed normally. Patients may stretch their arms and legs, curl up or stretch out, so loose fitting clothes are often more comfortable.
First Visit (click to open)
As with any visit to a medical professional, Dr. Rick needs to know the reason for visiting our office. New patients have some paperwork to fill out, that will tell him your medical history, your health concerns, and whether you are in immediate pain.
Dr. Rick will go over the form with you; please be thorough, honest, and as complete as possible.
There will be an initial exam where Dr. Rick will check your spine. He may do orthopaedic and neurological testing He may also x-ray your spine. You should budget 30 minutes for an initial visit.
If you need a back brace to treat conditions such as scoliosis, Dr. Rick is an exclusive representative for SpineCor, a superior Canadian-designed and made back brace. If this is your situation, your first visit may take longer. Your second visit, where Dr. Rick fits you with a SpineCor brace will take about two hours.
Second Visit (click to open)
A typical second visit is a 10 to 15 minute event where Dr. Rick performs an adjustment. An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement usually applied by the hands of a chiropractor to a joint of the patient’s body.
Adjustments loosens the joint to restore proper movement and optimize function. When a joint is adjusted, a gas bubble may escape causing the popping noise you may have heard about.
Chiropractic adjustment techniques have been researched extensively. Complications are rare and side-effects, such as temporary soreness, are usually minor.
Chiropractors are well-trained to determine if your problem will respond to chiropractic care or if you require referral to another health care provider.
Regular Visits (click to open)
A visit to Dr. Rick’s clinic does not take very long. A typical treatment is a 10 to 15 minute event. Visits are, for the most part, scheduled carefully and it is rare to get very far behind.
Walk-in patients are welcome, and will be fitted into the patient schedule as smoothly as possible.
